Heat Shields for TD04 Series Turbine Wheels

Turbine wheel is one of the most important parts in a turbocharger, it has various dimensions and forms, however, today we’re going to discuss about stock TD04 series turbine wheels.

There are 4 different specifications of Mitsubishi/Arashi TD04 wheels, they are TD04, TD04L, TD04H, and TD04HL. TD04 has inducer of 47.2mm and exducer of 40mm; TD04L has inducer of 47mm and exducer of 41.3mm; TD04H has inducer of 52mm and exducer of 44.2mm, TD04HL has inducer of 52mm and exducer of 45.6mm.

Kindly note that each turbine wheel/turbine housing configuration requires different heat shield sizes. A typical TD04 turbine wheel uses 8mm height heat shield, example turbos with TD04 include stock Mitsubishi 3000GT, 4M40, and 4D56 engines. Typical TD04L turbine wheels use 5mm height heat shield, such as stock Subaru, Volvo, Genesis TD04L turbos. Both TD04H and TD04HL use 13mm height heat shield; stock turbos installing TD04H include Volvo 740 and 940; and factory Subaru/Volvo/MHI TD04HL turbos use TD04HL.
