Securing Shaft Nut
A shaft nut on a turbocharger assembly holds the compressor wheel and other rotor parts onto the turbine shaft. The tightness of a shaft nut is significant for the proper operation and safety of the turbo.
To ensure that the shaft nut is tightened to the correct specification, use a torque wrench and tighten it to specific torque setting. Over- tightening may lead to nut, shaft, or compressor wheel failure, while a loose shaft nut can result in catastrophic damage to the compressor wheel, causing the whole turbo to fail operation.
At Arashi we recommend torque the nut to 18-20 in-lbs, or 1.5-1.6 ft-lbs then rotate the nut at an additional 90 to 110 degrees. The nut is self-locking therefore you do not need to use any sealers.
